Summer Programs > Teen Travel Programs
Since 1960, when our first Travel Trip left Detroit for a journey through
the Midwest, Tamarack has been a leader in teen adventure programming
in a Jewish environment. Our Travel Trips are an excellent opportunity
to see national landmarks, hike pristine mountains and have a variety
of fun and exciting day excursions like rafting, Kayaking or mountain
biking. Each Travel Trip is co-ed with 24 campers and six staff. While
experiencing these once in a lifetime adventures you will also develop
lifelong friendships with others on your trip.
Tamarack
Travel Trips are “camper powered” meaning the campers help
develop and define the trip every day. Whether it’s deciding which
sights to see that day or choosing the menu for the week, Travel Trip
campers gain independence and self-confidence. A “kibbutz”
lifestyle and sense of camaraderie is created because everyone pitches
in to do things like set camp, cook & clean meals, prepare and lead
services and work together to resolve personal issues.
Our campsites are all in National and State parks for easy access to
the hiking trails, landmarks, nature centers and lakes. While some days
are designated “driving” days, most days are spent sightseeing,
hiking or on day excursions. We travel in a coach vehicle with professional
drivers at the wheel.
Tamarack
Travel Trips are fun and exciting and can be more challenging than traditional
sleep away summer camp. Some activities are more physically engaging,
and require a higher level of maturity, cooperation and responsibility.
Independent outfitters who require their own release and consent forms
provide river rafting, sea kayaking, and rock climbing experiences.
