Tamarack Camps is creating its first master site plan since the property's development in 1950 for The Maas Recreational Area at its Ortonville, Michigan campus. A committee of talented volunteers and staff, under the leadership of past president Brian Kepes, is working closely with Brandstetter Carroll, a renowned camp planning firm to consider camp's current and future needs of our beautiful, 1,300 acre campus.
The Maas Recreational Area and Tamarack Camps are amongst the Detroit Jewish community's crowning gems. To continue Tamarack's success well into the future we sought important firsthand input from hundreds of campers, parents, alumni, summer staff, volunteers, past presidents, community leaders, board members, and others comprising of 17 different focus groups that met between November, 2011, and February, 2012. We heard much about the great Tamarack history, heritage, and traditions; and specifically as it relates to the property, what needs to be preserved, enhanced, and/or improved.
We are excited to continue on this important journey and, in typical Tamarack process, would love to hear your memories and thoughts about camp and specifically how the Maas Recreational Area assisted or deterred in your enjoyment of camp. Please share with us at alumni@tamarackcamps.com.
This aerial topographical map is being used to chart existing buildings and utility lines. Proposed improvements and/or enhancements will be phased in over time and will include new pathways, parking areas, and enhancements to program and living areas. Through a very generous anonymous donation, Sheruth Village will be the first camp village to be renovated. Additionally, the Ravitz Foundation provided an outstanding gift to construct a new arts and crafts facility. Please stay tuned for future updates on our website.
By the way, please keep us informed of any sightings and/or the whereabouts of Joe Krepsky...
Happy Trails!
